Trends and prospects of quantum algorithms for industrial applications
Abstract
Quantum computing, once considered a technology of the future, has suddenly taken on a more realistic aspect, with numerous companies from the industrial sector entering research and development. In recent years, several quantum hardware cloud services have been launched, providing users with a diverse application development environment where they can choose the hardware method that best suits their needs from various options. On the other hand, current devices face strict constraints due to noise and scalability issues (NISQ), and the practical application of quantum algorithms that clearly benefit (FTQC) still requires long-term development. The social implementation of quantum computing requires not only the implementation of hardware but also the development of diverse algorithms that derive advantage from quantum computing. In addition, it will become increasingly important to explore a wide range of industrial areas that match the need for problem setting in which quantum computing excels. In this talk, I will present the trends of quantum finance and quantum machine learning, which are considered promising areas of application, while explaining the activities and results at the Keio university Quantum Computing Center in which we have participated since 2020. I also plan to discuss on some other topics that have not been much in the spotlight but are considered interesting as application examples.
