Formulation and Validation of the Transmission Factor Between Two Electrically Small Dipole Antennas Immersed in Seawater
View PublicationAbstract
As one of the theoretical approaches to reveal antenna behavior in the sea, it has been reported that the impedances of electrically small dipole antennas can be formulated by quasi-electrostatic analysis. In this paper, the transmission factors, which is the maximum power efficiency between two antennas, are derived for both a half-sheath dipole antenna (HSDA) with electrodes partially exposed to seawater and a full-sheath dipole antenna (FSDA) with electrodes completely covered with an insulator through the same approach as the impedance derivation. Derived formulas indicate that HSDA shows larger transmission factor than FSDA. The comparison with the three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation shows that the derived formulas are valid regardless of the positional relationship between the two antennas.
